Ecotherapy

Ecotherapy states that the natural world promotes mental and physical well-being. A growing body of research suggests that nature is not only scientifically good for us, but it can heal us.

Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) is a healing practice where people immerse themselves in nature, while mindfully paying attention to their senses. Engaging all five senses brings us to feeling, and being, fully alive. Being in nature activates our soothing system, endorsing compassion, safety and connection, and protecting our mental health. Studies have proven that depression, anxiety, and anger all decrease after being in nature. It also promotes physical health, it lowers blood pressure and salivary cortisol levels. This is especially important for clients that are holding trauma in their bodies and have been experiencing a flood of stress hormones for a consistent and compounded amount of time.

Horticultural therapy

Horticultural therapy can include solo or side by side gardening and working in sections of the farm. Through gardening the participant is invited to be mindfully present.

Gardens teach us about nature and life cycles, by caring for the plants we subconsciously learn to care for ourselves. We see that each plant often needs something different, we learn to read cues, listen to the story it is telling us. We also see first hand how interconnection of our natural world.

All clients will also be offered fresh seasonal food from the farm and chicken and duck eggs when they leave Wildheart.
